In the best of times…

The sun sets on another day…

Sunset was beautiful but as I watched the darkness closed in rapidly as the east slowly blackened and the west lost color. It was a fantastic sight.

It was Christmas Day today and it was very unique day. There were a series of cascading events that slowly faded but were quite interesting. From unexpected illness to missing people who are important the day was both less and more and I watched carefully as the day unfolded. In the best of times we are engaged, but we should also be thankful in the times that aren’t so perfect.

I remember when I was little, and that Christmas was such an exciting time. I didn’t know I was poor, but I was and the things we got for Christmas carried us forward through the year. Those were nothing special but they had meaning to us, as we had little to hold on to. As I look back now, I consider my young self versus my older self and wonder why anything what’s more important than my family. As I consider now all of the “things” are no longer important and the most important item is being with my family.

I watch everyone get excited about one thing or another and wonder when everyone will realize the importance of people in your life. It seems like those realizations are often only when people are gone, and by then it is too late. With that in mind, I can only implore that we all take a moment and enjoy Christmas, then enjoy each day and make the people in your life important. I know I try, but perhaps I need to try a little harder.

So as the sun sets on another day, consider well the people in your life. They are the most important thing in your life, and they will carry you forward each and every day. Be there, and find your center each day, no matter what.

Sleep sweet, love life, and Merry Christmas…

Silent Night…

The sun sets on another day…

As the day crossed in to the night there was silence. It all felt good and I smiled as Christmas Eve reared its face once again.

There are lots of poems, including many written by me over the years, about Christmas Eve and getting ready for spending time with family and friends. The Night Before Christmas is filled with amazing moments and hopefully brings Joy to people of any religion. Usually Christmas Day is a day off that we can spend with each other and a break from the craziness of the world each day.

Thank you for reading and thank you for being special everyday. I hope your Christmas Eve is as full as mine.

So as the sun sets on another day find your way to spectacular moments. I think you are amazing and will believe in you, no matter what.

Sleep sweet, love life, and happy holidays…

Encouragement…

The sun sets on another day…

Sunset was fantastically amazing as it slid through the hills and blanketed the sky with oranges and violets. I stared at the sky in awe, and watched twilight overtake the horizon.

I find that sometimes a few random actions mean far more than expected. Today was the second day in a row surrounded by children and enjoying the moments. I find that children have an amazing view of the world and quite often they see the world more clearly than adults. Not because they are more intelligent but instead because their imagination allows them to see further. Imagination is what gives us the ability to see beyond ourselves and into the world of possibilities.

Here I sat surrounded by children full of magic and wonderment in their eyes. Here I sat paying attention to the innocence that opens fresh minds to possibilities.

In my mind it is time for us all to step into our imaginations and see beyond everything that is laid before us. In my mind it is time to see possibilities and understand that who we are can be far more than what people say and instead has no limits except the limits of our imaginations.

I spent time today talking to people as I always do but in the process, I spent significant time seeing those people as more. from the child who wanted to be a ninja and could see the excitement before him to the little girl who just wanted a bicycle and whose heart melted before me when one was given to her. There were so many amazing stories that I could not tell them all but somewhere in the midst of giving gifts and experiencing the depths of a child’s heart I saw the adults get lost in the imagination as well. This is what the world should be all about.

So as the sun sets on another day, find passion in your imagination and encourage passion in everyone you see. The real world is a challenge, but it will take the depth of our imagination to find a way to make the world a better place. Be a part of change by helping a child see that imagination is real, no matter what.

Sleep sweet, love life, and remember to have a cookie…

A child’s smile…

The sun sets on another day…

At sunset I felt a certain sense of pride as I enjoyed the moments with volunteers, family, and friends and made the world at least a little better by helping a child smile.

It’s very possible if not probable that I and the rest of us made many children smile, in fact it is pretty much a sure thing that we made a large number of people smile but I am only focused on one at a time. I wasn’t really looking a global change of peoples hearts and minds but for a few perhaps we did make a big difference.

Two years ago our family was struck with tragedy as we lost my niece to a horrible accident. Somewhere in the midst of all of that the Haley Sue Foundation was born. Its purpose is to empower and inspire (see the site for details) and it achieves that purpose well. Today was the second year that we shared Christmas with a series of wonderful young guests and their parents. Our only goal was to show them a little positivity and maybe a little fun at Christmas. I would like to think we succeeded.

There is something spectacular about the gleam in the eye of a child when they realize that someone listened to them. It is even more spectacular when we share so much more and they realize just how special they are. Today is I laughed with children and adults alike I can only say that my heart is full.

So as the sun sets on another day, I hope you too can find amazing moments make your life complete. I hope you realize how special you are. Mostly I hope that each and every day we can all enjoy the moments together, no matter what.

Sleep sweet, love with every fiber of who you are, and be you…
