Friendless…

The sun sets on another day…

Sunset was again cloudy, but there were no meatballs, nor even a hint of one. Instead it was a cool brisk day, and a cool eve followed by movie fun!

Today was a stretch of the imagination as I watched multiple movies focused directly or indirectly on friendship. It wasn’t necessarily whether the movies were about having friends or keeping friends; instead, it was about more of the definition of a friend and how friends make us better. (or worse)

I found myself considering life and friends and the definitions that I have laid upon them over time. As I did so, I realized my definitions had changed significantly since I was young, perhaps less than I thought. Friends are at the core of our existence; conversely, to deny friendship is to deny oneself.

Over the past several years, I have had many friends go into the unknown that most fear. Some of them were surrounded by loved ones, while others were alone and more than alone. I sit back right now and consider very carefully which works better. If we are truly alone, we affect no one with our passing, but if friends surround us, perhaps we affect more and less. Friendship is the defining element that allows us to let go more easily and for our friends and family to grow.

Yes, I know this is all depressing, and it is annoying as well. All I want to say is cherish your friends like there is no tomorrow because there may not be, and keep redefining your vision of friendship until you get it right. When will you get it right? That will be when you are happy, and they are happy by being together and helping each other to a higher place.

So as the sun sets on another day, I hope you have good friends, and I hope that you feel deeply that your job is to lift them up, realizing that they were already lifting you up. An impossible action for Archimedes but easy for a friend.

Sleep sweet, love life, and be there…
