The sun sets on another day…
High in the sky the sun rises above, and looks down upon us all, well, not really looks down on us, because it has no personality and doesn’t think we are lesser, or well, anyway.
Isn’t it easy to get caught in words? It is easy to say things we don’t mean, and mean things we don’t say.
A long time ago I had a girlfriend that was a little brutal. She made the statement to me once about life, “Don’t say it if you don’t mean it, and if you really mean it, say it.” Of course that was after a daily dose of silliness that should have scared me to become a monk, but it stuck with me for a long time. After all she was also the one who said, “If you were sorry you wouldn’t have done it.” Which was after I was stuck in traffic behind a wreck and was 5 minutes late to our date night. Fun huh?
The point is, sometimes we need to say things so people can understand our points of view, and sometimes we need to be quiet and listen, so we understand their point of view. I really don’t know if she really got that concept.
Although I have put my foot in my mouth so many times that Dr Scholls makes a mouthwash for me I can honestly say I have listened as many times and found a way to understand the misunderstood, and accept the unacceptable. It is this trait (in my opinion) that makes good people better. Those that at least try to take the high road instead of the self escalating poor communication we often experience are the people that can change the world. In my opinion there is no better use of our time than listening to other people, and no better people to be with than those that want to listen to you.
So as the sun sets on another day, listen. Listen to the sunset, listen to your heart, listen to other people, and find the way to be the best person you can be by taking the high road every time you can.
Sleep sweet, love life, and reach for the stars and you will always find your way to success…
