The sun sets on another day…
I have talked about aspects of “A Christmas Carol” here before. It was a nice little post over a year ago, and I was speaking to a group yesterday and we were talking about all of the versions of “A Christmas Carol” that are out there right now. Now, I know it is not Christmas, but I made the point yesterday that the spirit of Christmas should live within you each day of your life lest I send three ghost friends to visit you.
As we discussed the different movies I rapidly said that the most powerful and heartfelt line is not by Scrooge, but by Marley right at the start of the movie when he is told by Scrooge:
“But you were always a good man of business, Jacob,’ faltered Scrooge, who now began to apply this to himself.
Which was followed by a retort from the ghost of:
‘Business!’ cried the Ghost, wringing its hands again. “Mankind was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence, were, all, my business. The deals of my trade were but a drop of water in the comprehensive ocean of my business!”
So what, right?
The “so what” revolves around who we are daily. Are we the person that clings to things or the person who reaches out and touches hearts (Not literally). Are we living for ourselves or for others as well. How do we define ourselves, by what we have or who we help? The questions are endless but as Dickens pointed out, we can be light of heart or forge chains, I would rather be light of heart.
So as the sun sets on another day, lets set ourselves on a path of happiness that focuses on everyone, us included, and in the process try to make the world a better place.
Sleep sweet, break free of your chains, and love the night away, no matter what…
