The sun sets on another day…
The sunset was getting close, soon to be almost amazing, then the sky opened wide and swallowed the sun, and in the process the sunset was lost to those on the ground. I was happy though for I knew above the clouds tonight was amazing.
Last night I sat in a room with a group of my family watching “The Haunting of Hill House. First, I must say that horror as a whole loses a lot with me, I have seen a lot of movies, and a lot of horror. Many times I smile and laugh, and do not react how others do, so my opinions about the show can be taken with a grain of salt and are not germane. What is germane is the reactions of those who sat mystified by the show. Watching and waiting and becoming more and more engrossed until hands covered eyes, people jumped, and gasps were heard in the room.
Yes, I was watching as well, but I was also watching the room as I am fascinated by our reactions to suspense and fear, and last night I was truly engrossed in all that was going on.
People as a whole often feel the need to be excited, scared, and mystified by the world. There are so many things that can make a person feel alive, and sometimes it is pure excitement. Yes yes, some people hate to be scared but the thrill of roller coasters, thrillers and horror movies, and other events are testament to our fascination with the edge, after all, why else would anyone jump out of a perfectly good airplane to face the fears they have inside. What makes you feel excited about life that could be a little scary for some?
Personally I do a lot of weird things that many would consider a little scary. A friend once told me some of them were selfish because I put myself in danger, but I also am very safe, so I press the envelope in many ways. Yes, I may drive too fast or take a chance or two, and I may be the one trying some things first, but I want to always be that person who is truly alive, and not miss a moment. You can do ti too, just be safe, and enjoy the edge.
So as the sun sets on another day, take a moment, feel your pulse and do something that will make it race. Share it with someone, be so in touch with life no one could ever accuse you of anything but living, and in the process pave a way towards happiness each day, no matter what.
