The sun sets on another day…
Sunset was amazing as always, and as I watched the sun set through the trees I smiled at the sparkling lights playing across my field of vision.
There is a song called time in a bottle. It surmises that if time could be saved in a bottle we have items we want to spend time with, and often those items boil down to people. It also points out that there never seems to be enough time to do the things we want to do once we find them. A true statement if you let it be one. Time is fluid and as such it always seems to be running through our fingers, slipping away like water between our fingers.
Why is it we always seem to create containers to hold things that can’t be held? Why is it we know what needs to be done but we think if we approach it a different way, that somehow putting it in a container will make it possible?
I have known a lot of people who like to compartmentalize their thoughts and the people around them. They identify key traits and then put those people in their boxes, and set them aside thinking those boxes will make it easier. Like time, putting someone in a box is akin to trying to catch air in a butterfly net, as you swing harder the air escapes more easily, and in the end the world just doesn’t work that way. It never has, nor will it ever. If you think it can, it is a good illusion.
I have an idea. Instead of putting time in a bottle and people in boxes, lets make our days count. Let’s give everyone the time they deserve now, and throw our boxes in the recycle bin. After all, even if you only have today you will have a good today, and tomorrow you can begin again. Stop expecting more, and just make it all it can be each day, no matter what “it” is, and along the way, have some fun. Life is worth it.
So as the sun sets on another day, it was a good day, and I have no boxes or bottles, perhaps I have no time either, but I will act like it each day, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love deeply, and make every moment count…
