The sun sets on another day…
Sunset was again cloudy and cold. What surprised me was after dark the sky opened wide the the moonlight sprayed the horizon. Beauty is everywhere if you look for it.
I recently read two books of poetry and as I did so I was once again amazed by the human condition. You could say it’s easy to amaze me but it’s actually not. I have seen so much that very little surprises me except when a cat appears inside of a closed door that I know when I closed on them. That’s another story.
To put it simply people believe. People believe in the good and other people. People believe that other people have their best interests at heart. People believe in the worst of people and fear them for what they could do. people believe what they want to believe, good, bad, or indifferent.
I tried to talk to a lot of people and see past the simplicity that is often projected as a simple mask. Instead I tried to see past that and in doing so I find that many people do not see past their own bias. I realized a long time ago that I had to shed my bias to even begin to understand how others felt or reacted. If you don’t shed your bias you do not have common ground. Worse, if you don’t shed your bias you often put words in other people’s minds that don’t exist there. How many times have people made assumptions about others only to be proven wrong because they don’t understand points of view.
Who cares, right? Well the whole point of this is if you are reading to maybe take a moment and see past your personal bias. That person in front of you may not be a bad person, they may be the person that will make your life better. The person you think is perfect for you may not be the right person, they may just be projecting who and what they are. Everything is it only as it seems to you and to set aside your bias and forget how you see something is an incredible gift. Try it. Talk to people and instead of applying how you feel really listen. When you listen to people try to see who they are and their point of view. Mostly, remove you and your preconceived notions from the equation and instead grow a viewpoint one moment at a time of the other person. You’ll be surprised.
So as the sun sets on another day I find that reading people’s writing can see a lot about who they are. With that in mind, if you read my writing remember Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Why? Because you might just have to “run away”. Keep laughing, keep smiling, and be you no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and listen to hear…
