The sun sets on another day..
Today I got to watch the sunset from the edge of a waterfall. Well, not a natural waterfall but instead a waterfall made by man. It didn’t matter though. It was spectacular and beautiful and maybe a little more.
I smiled as I sat watching the water rush down and swirl in completely controlled craziness. It is amazing how a man can control nature so effectively and in this case, change the course of an entire river.
I have written about it before, but when I was young, my friend and I decided to make a dam in a small drainage creek. Several times we built it and it fell apart rapidly but we learned from each mistake until finally, we created a curved structure that held up under the high pressure of the water. The normally 3-in deep drainage river with its little crawdads was now over 4 ft deep and could be swam in. We had a lot of fun for about 6 hours until the neighbors came and knocked it all down because it was a danger to everyone. My friend and I watched as the water rushed down behind all of the houses, and I laughed a little and planned to build the next one.
My point is that failure isn’t always the vicious and horrible monster we think it is. Failure gives us an opportunity to grow and eventually succeed. No I did not go on to build giant dams and engineer intent structures but I did have a lot of fun. Isn’t that a key element to us all? Having a lot of fun?
So as the sun sets on another day, a roundabout way of saying failure isn’t a bad thing I know, but consider well each day that every failure brings you closer to success. Keep trying, keep pushing, and find your success along the way, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and daaaammmm…
