The sun sets on another day…
The post storm sunset was stunning and subdued. It seems like those two cannot coexist, but sometimes they do. Sometimes the edge of night is a thin blade covered in color. Tonight it was a quiet expanse and a few shimmering reds that faded quickly into the western sky. The seagulls frolicked in the peace and didn’t even scream as usual, it was good.
Today, I was standing in line at the post office dealing with that fun and fantastic task of sending the government money. I giggled and I laughed with the woman at the counter and had more than my share of fun. It’s impressive that just about everywhere, people are drawn to find happiness perhaps even more than they are drawn to the negatives. I would like to think so.
While I stood in line, a young woman in a bright summer outfit smiled at the laughter the counter agent, and I were sharing. We all started talking and then laughed a little over simple happy thoughts that really weren’t anything astounding.
Although she said things hadn’t been super happy, I strongly suspect that this young lady is a usually happy simply because of how easily she engaged and positive she was. Our laughter was contagious, and as I walked out of the post office, a new person walking in started laughing with us even more.
Why can’t we all be like this remarkable woman? Just a few days ago, I wished someone a great day while I was downtown, and they smirked with a smug look and grumbled some negativity. Today was proof that some people out there still want a little bit more. Some people are positive even in the present, and with that in mind, I can only say that we should all be having great days and fantastic moments together. It doesn’t take much but we all should laugh a little and wish others a good day.
I’m going to quote Mission Impossible so that all the young people can look it up, but your mission if you choose to accept it, is to find a few people today and just be nice. I’m not suggesting that you change yourself or the world but just a few people. Help them understand that, as a whole, it’s not a bad thing to be a little happy. Help them understand just by telling a joke or laughing with them that things aren’t bad. Maybe if we all give a few people a smile, the world will start changing for the better. I know, wishful thinking.
So as the sun sets on another day, I hope you take a moment and enjoy the world. I hope you find it in you to make someone’s day, even if it is your own. Mostly I hope you have a great day because you deserve it. Keep being you, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and this tape will self-destruct in 5 seconds…
