The sun sets on another day
I missed sunset today, but I knew it was probably beautiful. Instead I was playing trivia and enjoying a few moments talking about one of my more favorite subjects.
I have been fascinated by Halloween since I was younger. I suppose you could say I celebrated it in a grand way as I got older. When I was younger, I was always the one who had to stay home and give out candy because no one was home. My little sister would go out and have her fun and sometimes I would go out well past the time of other trick-or-treaters and usually take home a lot of candy. That wasn’t the fun part for me. The fun part was the movies. You see before I was 13 and actually before I was 15 you did not have streaming services and DVDs and hundreds of cable channels to find something excited to watch. Back then you had three major channels and a public broad casting channel if you were lucky. Sometimes in bigger cities you would have more, but I was not that lucky. Halloween brought fun movies that I normally would not get to see. Monsters and the macabre would creep into the house. From the time I was eight and nine and I would enjoy the fantastic imaginations of those writers, actors, and producers.
Now here we are years later with a mere infinite number of choices to find creative content and more. There are so many fun movies out there that you can’t possibly watch them all. Of course there are some that are less than perfect. My point is, now that Halloween is approaching you have a choice to watch something fun and get involved in all sorts of exciting times that have to do with the spooky season. It’s absolutely fantastic if you want to take a chance. What are a few of my top horror movies? They might surprise you.
Ghost Story – Full of suspense at every turn and a truly outstanding cast. With the quality of the actors involved you could do no less then super with this movie. I will always be stunned by the haunting power of Alice Krige and the no less than amazing performance of Fred Astaire.Alien – Still a powerful movie no matter where you are. I was young when this came out and was obsessed by it. Absolutely awesome story and then even more awesome group of people. The work by HR Geiger in this movie should be legend forever.
The Changeling – George C Scott starred in this movie and most of the people I talked to have never seen it. George C Scott takes a home and finds that there is a ghost in it. This movie set a stage for suspense and you wondered at every turn what was going to happen next. Perhaps not the fastest in the world but it’ll give you a vibe for sure.Visiting Hours -This movie is not really horror except that it is. There are many movies like the Jagged Edge and the Mean Season that are over the top thrillers but visiting hours added sheer terror to the entire thing.
Scanners – Although a lot of people haven’t seen scanners it was a good solid foundation movie for a long time. The opening scene sets a stage for a movie filled with unexpected twists and turns. The entire film has a certain noir about it and even the sound effects seemed to attack you.Slither – when you watch slither you can watch it and be creeped out or you can giggle and laugh the movie is pretty much meant for either. I really enjoyed a monster that had a weakness.
These are just to name a few I will probably add more as we get closer to Halloween. I hope that you can take a moment and enjoy one or two and in the end I hope that you can enjoy every minute of the day, even if it is creepy, no matter what…
Sleep sweet, love life, and pleasant dreams…
