The sun sets on another day…
Sunset was cold, wet, and really pretty yucky. I watched the sky fade though grays and enjoyed the warmer temperatures, even in the graying eve.
I was in a meeting recently and the question was posed, “would you rather use your sight or hearing”.
I have thought about this question many times before as it was in many different philosophy books and what if papers and books. I listened to others answer the question as I thought about it yet again.
Of course, the answer for most is “I would rather lose neither” but I put it to you that as you think about the world around us which sense gives you more information? The sense of sight is quite limited, but most people can’t imagine a world without seeing. The sense of hearing is far more acute and has a far wider range and people infer a tremendous amount of information from listening. The sense of sound has significantly more range and dynamic.
My opinion was that I would rather lose my sight but my opinion was not important. Instead the answers that were given opened my eyes to how people saw the world. Even more so, it allowed a dialogue to blossom about how we see the world. You see it is hard for some people to understand others because of past experience but when you add the depth of how people perceive the world and what senses they rely on it changes the infinite combinations of understanding a little more. I enjoyed the discussion and filed away the questions for review.
How about you? How do you see the world? If you lost a sense what would it be? How would your view of the world change? Not such an easy question is it?
So as the sun sets on another day, take a breath and realize you and your view of the world are unique. Be that person that sees past your own perspectives and finds an infinite universe before them. It’s worth it. Open your eyes come listen with your ears and stop and smell the roses, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and make it amazing…
