The sun sets on another day…
I watched sunset as snow began falling across the flattened fields passing by my window. As the sky lit up it darkened when the clouds closed in.
Yesterday I was in a writing group and completed a rather cool poem. I enjoyed the group as I always do and they took yet another approach at poetry. Poetry is always interesting because there are so many rules available you can almost say there are no rules. I know many great poets whose poems read almost like prose and are a testament to the flexibility of the art.
As I drive tonight, I find myself writing poetry in my head and trying to commit it to memory so I can use it later. It is in that vein that I give you the following:
The Night Goes On
It was a simple moment driving tonight
a simple moment that felt so right
I passed the car then two then three
I wasn’t sure why it was me
I drove farther and faster then slower and more
I kept on driving and tried to explore
the day became knight and the night was fun
for after all the night always goes on
I drove for a while and didn’t feel tired
I just kept driving and I think I was wired
it wasn’t a bad night nor was it good
I just kept driving because I knew that I should
and finally it came my destination was here
and not even once did I even feel fear
the day became night and the night was a song
the song kept repeating that the night goes on
I sit in my bed now about to fall asleep
I don’t know whether to laugh or whether to weep
I went far and wide and hither and yon
and all the while the night goes on
So as the sun sets on another day, I hope you have a terrific evening and if you have to go somewhere try not to drive 1800 miles in four days unless you’re really really good at it. If you do I hope you have fun and sing a few songs to yourself, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and enjoy the ride….
