The sun sets on another day…
As the sun set in the western sky it was to herald a wonderful night, and spray the horizon with color. There was no imagination necessary as the world was filled with magnificent orange and red hues.
Yesterday I wrote about two people that really made my day better. It’s sometimes hard to see people like that and many times others don’t pay attention enough. Today I had a similar experience but it was just the positive interaction and people that were involved.
If you haven’t figured it out or if you haven’t read 29,000 sunsets, I watch a lot of movies. Lately it has been a little bit more difficult but that is changing rapidly again. Today I went and saw the second part of a movie that was good. There could have been things that were better and there could have been things that were worse. Some of the effects were beyond belief. Prior to going into the movie I talked to several people and was taking care of by one of the staff that went well beyond what was required. It made me smile and then made me laugh a little as I thought about it tonight.
There is so much focus in the world right now about being a good customer the people sometimes forget you have to be a good employee as well. No one wants to get poor service and be expected to be a good customer and sometimes a good tipping customer. There was a time that a tip was meant to reward good service and not an expectation for every sale unless you gave good service. At that time most people gave great service so in theory they got good tips.
I know there are exceptions to this rule, and I know some customers are jerks and Karen’s and don’t treat people right. I also know that that is not the majority. There are people that go above and beyond and try to make sure that each person in a service industry is treated well. Today at the theater I talked to three people that exceeded anything a theatre could expect of an employee and one of those 3 was well beyond. Do you know what? That little bit of service made my day better and I’m sure it made every customer’s day fantastic.
OK, so what’s the point of this post? If you are a customer you have no right to treat anyone poorly. If you are treated poorly you have the ability to pay your check and leave and not leave a tip. Make sure that that aligns and you are being fair and just. Make sure that your personal bias does not create a situation that was negative when it was always positive. If you are in the service industry you have no right to treat anyone poorly either. If they’re a jerk, you have the right to walk away. You should never be treated in a negative manner and I honestly believe that most people will be positive with you if you are positive with them. Perhaps I’m wrong but I spent a long time helping people and there were only a few times that I was angry because of a poor customer. If you don’t agree that’s OK. We all have opinions. This is mine and I will treat people in the service industry with respect and make sure they know they are appreciated.
So as the sun sets on another day, thank you to the people that made my day better. I appreciate you more than you know. There may be days that you may have it a little rougher, but I hope you remember that you made my day great today. More to the point, I hope your day’s become amazing always and you never have a rough day because you deserve the world. I hope everyone can keep making the world a better place. It could be just as simple as treating people well, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love deeply, and find passion in everything you do…
