The sun sets on another day…
Sunset surprised me. IT was cold, cloudy, and generally not a nice day. The
skies were foreboding, and every minute that passed was a reminder of this near
winter day in the midst of spring. Then it happened, in the last moments of the
daylight, the sky opened wide, and the colors became vibrant and beyond belief.
I was amazed.
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade, right? Well, how about if I said
to polish your car with them, or make a pie, or do something else? I would be
right too, yes? I know, life rarely gives us lemons, but it does put us in
situations that seem a bit difficult, and sometimes brutal. We decide how to
respond, right?
My point today is, you have the ability to translate everything around you
as it affects your world. You have the ability to make a bad day good or a good
day bad without regard to the content of the day. It is all about you.
Recently I saw two people fighting about, well, politics. Politics have a
special place in my trashcan simply because there is no way to win in any
discussion. People who feel they are right cannot be convinced of anything
except that they are right. People that think they are wrong are willing to
listen but usually don’t engage in discussions about politics. As I watched
these two people become more and more animated about their positions it was
evident that both were not paying attention to the other. Both participants
only wanted to hear themselves talk and both participants translated their
opponent as an opponent and would not consider anything.
I am sure they both walked away feeling bad about their encounter and
frustrated that they gained no ground. It doesn’t have to be that way. Why
can’t it be that two people listen to each other and then set aside their
differences and have a coke together? People do have the choice to translate
whatever is going on into a positive and instead learn from their interactions.
Perhaps I am wrong, and I’m willing to accept that because there is always
something new to be learned every day.
If life gives you lemons, make strawberry cream pie. Don’t settle for the
lemons or the lemonade but make your day the most amazing day it can be. I know
that this world is full of lemons, but I believe this world is also full of
possibilities and I hope you do too.
So as the sun sets on another day, it’s a good day today. Not because
something spectacular happened but because I made it a good day and as I do so
I enjoy the moments and make them mine. I hope you can make these moments yours
too, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and I like frozen lemonade…
