The sun sets on another day…
It was a great sunset today. I smiled as the sky lit up and I enjoyed every second and maybe a little more. Sometimes at the end of the day taking a moment to reflect is very worthwhile.
I got a haircut today. I know, who cares? Whenever I get a haircut, I talk to the people that are cutting my hair. We usually talk about nothing in particular and sometimes talk about a little more than nothing in particular. As I listen often, I wonder if barbers and bartenders know more about the world than the CIA.
Today I was I was talking to this particular person and exploring the silliness of customers coming in and making fools out of themselves, probably like me, I considered how fantastic it was for some people to be engaged with the public. The person cutting my hair was very articulate and kept the conversation going and the time went by very quickly. They did note that their previous customer had asked for a very specific haircut and then become a pure “Karen” and said that the haircut was not right even though the specifications were exact. I talked about it for a moment and noted that the hair that had just been cut would grow back and it wouldn’t take long, but the damage of destroying someone after giving specific instructions would fade nowhere near as fast.
They say that sticks and stones will break your bones and words will never harm you, but sticks and stones can be dodged and thrown, but words hold on forever.
My point today is to be careful what you say. Is it right? Does it mean anything? How will you affect the people around you? Do they deserve it?
Whether positive or negative that last part is something you have to really consider. If you are lifting someone up, do they deserve to be lifted up? If you are breaking them down, were they in the wrong and deserve what you were about to dish out?
In many cases it appears society does not care about the repercussions of what is said or done. This is not always true. It is however, happening more often. Wouldn’t it be nice if we use the thumper method all the time, “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.”
Well now I’m sitting here with a beautiful haircut. I must look good. The person who cut my hair is going out after work and riding their bicycle with their puppy dog. That sounds like a lot of fun. I hope they will be good.
So as the sun sets on another day, I hope you feel spectacular about life and find the way to lift others in the same way. I hope you see people and in seeing people realize that they too, have a lot going on. I hope you know that you are special every day and so is everyone else except that guy that is following you in the dark alley at night. (Just kidding dark alley guy) find a way to be positive if you can, each and every day, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and what a great haircut…
