The sun sets on another day…
Another spectacular day in the north opened up excitement and amazement as the wind and skies sprayed waves across the horizon. As the sun set I could do nothing but feel satiated with experiences and full of positivity from wonderful people.
In the north of Michigan, just northwest of Traverse City is a little town called Fish Town. I had never heard of it until today, and never really paid much attention to that little area. As I walked away hours later, I felt good about the interaction and even better about the people of this very small town.
A long time ago my father had a shop in a little city called Metamora IN. Since that time each visit to a small town that seems to revolve around tourists has me comparing that town long ago to what these new towns display. Of course, there were a lot of things that stood out right away. I watched the waves crash against the harbor fortifications on the windy and cloudy day and the beauty of the area set of mood that was impossible to ignore. As I wandered through the shops, I was stunned by the focus on both the lake and the small town, and then I walked in to the Preservation Museum.
It was small but filled with answers to questions that most people don’t ask. Behind the counter was Cathy with a C. She made the difference and if she spoke to me as she spoke to just about every person walking in just about everyone walked away with not only a sense of wonderment but hope for the future and hope for this little town that once was a major fishing Mecca.
She told me stories of the past and how they had tried to keep the city the way that it was. The group focused on helping people keep their property and staying true to the times. This made the whole area acquaint and quite beautiful. She also told of shadows that were far above when others tried to buy out the city to modernize, mechanize, and mutilate. Somehow the little city won. Now others can share, and share they did on this day because the area was packed with people and obviously the little museum, I was in was packed with pride.
If you want somewhere fun to go that has the air of a small city and maybe a little more plan a visit to the Traverse City area and wander up to Fishtown, maybe there you’ll take a moment and step back in time when things mattered a little bit more.
So as the sun sets on another day trauma It was a good day and as the sun passed, I was happy. I had met so many terrific people this weekend and, in the process, I hope that I spread just a little bit of positivity, and made a difference to at least one person. Make a difference and if it’s only to one person that’s OK, still push to make a difference, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and did enjoy all your moments…
