The sun sets on another day…
The sunset was beautiful once again. There’s something about sunset in the fall that just adds beauty as the stunning reds and oranges play across the red and orange leaves preparing for their long winter. As I watched the line rise above the trees and finally be gone I was astounded by the beauty it shared.
I always laugh at the movie The Lion King. The past can still hurt just as was explained to Simba as he questioned himself. Of course the past can hurt, of course the past affects you, of course the past partially shaped who you are. This doesn’t mean you can blame the past for who you are. It also doesn’t help for you to whine as though no one else had ever experienced anything as bad as you went through.
The truth is, both the good and the bad shape who we are but only we can give any past present or future The power to turn us into negative people. As we progress in life, we have the opportunity to avoid the mistakes of our past. We have the opportunity to make every day a better day than yesterday.
I talk about this a lot to people and many of them disagree and state that the reason they are the way they are is because of their past. Their focus is that if they face something bad the world needs to understand it and face their recount of the badness that made them who they are. If you think about that it isn’t very nice.
We are who we are because we choose to be. If something bad happens we know to avoid it, and find something good in its place. If something good happens I am hopeful we will consistently look for more. The more good the better. You deserve that much. You deserve to feel good about yourself and to have a good day everyday, not just when external things seem to be good. You are in control.
Yes, I could rattle about this almost indefinitely. There are numerous examples. If it takes so much time to recount the negative, spend three times as much recounting your positive and you’ll begin to understand how I see the world.
It’s not that every day is the best day, it is that I choose to make everyday as good as I can make it or even better. I choose. I push my way forward. And in the process I want to take as many people as I can with me, enjoying the day, free from the worries that won’t matter two weeks from now anyway.
So as the sun sets on another day, take a moment and enjoy your day. Take a moment and be that person that you want to be. Not because I said so, but more because it will make the next day easier and the next day and even the next day. After all good days are fun and I for one I’m going to have those days, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and enjoy the night…
