Te sun sets on another day…
As I looked in the rearview mirror I saw the sunset behind me, there was beauty and there was chaos but in the end the beauty was far more wonderful.
Occasionally I meet people give me hope for the state of the world and for the future. Most people have tremendous redeeming qualities, but there are some that stand above. There are some that try to make a difference in each and every day and some that strive for even more.
It is something that is hard to define. Is it the fact that people who want more take the time to find their way more effectively? Is it something inside of them that pushes them to go beyond what normal people will do? For that matter what is normal? Does everyone have a point where they shine above others, or do some people always go further?
Today as I start a new position with the company where two people set a standard above others, I find myself looking at people in a positive manner. in the midst of my contemplation, I found someone once again who may well set a standard for us all.
While eating at a rather fun restaurant the server was particularly positive. As we interacted, I threw out one of my standard statements, “can you do a cartwheel?” It is here that many people flounder because they’re not sure how to answer even if they can do a cartwheel, they are quite stymied at the idea of someone asking about it. The question isn’t completely serious, but it does always garner me a response that lets me know a little about the person I ask. Only once have I had a host at a restaurant stop, do a cartwheel in the aisle, then turn around and say, “yes I can”.
Today I had a very different response that was just as inspiring. I told my story to the server, and they came back a few moments later and said that they could do a cartwheel, and they got permission from the manager to do one. It was a unique response because although it was very positive it was very measured and very impressive from the aspect that this person thought through the situation and wanted to achieve within the guidelines to protect themselves.
I was impressed, not because they would do a cartwheel or because they asked, or even because their personality made everyone around them feel at ease. I was impressed at the package and the thought processes that wanted to protect both themselves and the ones around them and at the same time to achieve and prove self-worth. Isn’t that what people should do?
It got even better after further discussion as I learned that perhaps this future biomechanical engineer could be someone who develops or works on developing solutions for making life better. It is that impressive thought process that opens the future to possibilities.
In our world today there are many types of people. There are those who get on social media and complain about one side or the other. There are those who sit in a corner and don’t think about anything but themselves. There are those that constantly scroll the Internet looking for mini moments of magnificence. There are those that stand up to make a difference even when others work to chop them down. And here, today, I found those others that are trying to find their way to change a world.
Thanks to everyone and every type of person, there are so many that can’t be counted. But all of us together can work for hope.
So as the sun sets on another day, if you meet people that can change the world, help them. Find a way to make a difference. Encourage them so they can find their path or stay out of the way so they can stay on it. Either that or be that person that makes a difference in the world in some way, every day, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and good people for the win…
