The sun sets on another day…
It was another beautiful sunset and then as I watched the sun in the western sky being taken away by the clouds and the edge of the day I smiled. Not because the day was amazing or better than anything else, but instead because there is beauty everywhere and I just enjoyed the moment.
It’s funny watching grandkids grow up. As a parent you are very focused on doing the best possible thing for your child in spite of anything going on around you. This is a lot of pressure because you’re constantly trying to steer a boat that has a mind of its own and wants to go everywhere except the direction that you want it to go.
As a grandparent things are just a little different. As a grandparent as you sit to the side you don’t have to worry about steering, instead you can just worry about having fun and you get to see a lot of cool things along the way.
As I sit and watch my granddaughter grow up, she is just now coming to a point where she is quite the conversationalist. She also picks up strange things from who knows where, and now she is saying “hey” to point out things that she focuses on. We got into an interesting back and forth over French Fries when I took one of her French Fries and munched on it. She looked at me with a grin and simply said, “hey”. It was near perfect. An objection with a smile, that was both funny and pointed.
It’s things like that that make me smile. I know I went through similar with each of my children, but I was so focused on everything else that it was hard to see the simple things that make you giggle and laugh. Now I am fully giggling and laughing because the day is pretty spectacular.
If you have children, do you notice that you sometimes miss those special moments, trying to guide the other moments? If you have grandchildren, are you more at ease because someone else is watching out for all the edges? Does it make you smile to see all the things that are happening all around you?
For me it’s pretty spectacular.
So as the sun sets on another day, I hope you find some fun, and I hope as you do that the world revolves and makes everything wonderful around you. After all, fun is one of the end points in life that we really should focus on. Look for the joy and little things and make your world amazing, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and hey hey…
