The sun sets on another day…
There were a few pieces of pink coming through the sky as the Tornadoes began to roll in. At least that’s what they said was going to happen. I watched the pink go in and out as foreboding clouds rolled across the horizon like grim reapers of destruction.
Here’s your story for the day. I went out to pick up Culver’s knowing there was a storm coming and that it was potentially dangerous. I was getting it for my grandchildren and as I drove I got numerous warnings on my phone. I got the Culvers and they made the order quickly but we’re concerned about the weather. While I was there they handed me my order and asked if I wanted to go to the tornado shelter in the back, I wasn’t really worried about it, I’ve been through a lot of severe weather before so I went outside got in the truck and as I left it started raining. I was only about four miles away from the house so I wandered back and as I did it got really bad for a few minutes. The rain was heavy, the wind was hard, but the truck and I had weathered worse.
As I turned up the road to go back to the house and feed the kids I saw a porta potty wander by. It was being pushed down the street by the wind. I pulled into the driveway went downstairs and in the time I had been gone maybe, 15 minutes, the area had been decimated. Trees were down everywhere, trees were in areas they shouldn’t be and everything was quite a mess.
I walked inside and was thankful because everyone was safe.
Maybe that’s all we have to worry about. Maybe worrying about damage and craziness is something we can do, but not necessarily something we should do. Maybe all we need is to be thankful for the things that are important to us, like grandchildren and chicken strips.
It was pretty rough and the kids were scared, but my granddaughter grabbed 2 chicken strips and began eating them both, back and forth, seeing which one she could eat fastest. It’s not that she forgot, but she knew she was important to me because I brought the chicken strips. We had some laughs and some smiles and it wasn’t as bad as it could have been.
So as the sun sets on another day, I hope you realize what’s important. Maybe it’s you. I hope you understand how special you are and how special the people are around you and never let them forget, not for any reason ever, how important they are. After all your world is better because of them and if it’s not, well that’s another story. I hope you find what is special, no matter what.
