Why miss another?

A name to remember…

The sun sets on another day…

The wind whistled through the trees and the sky seemed angry even though it wasn’t. I waited 4 the snow or the rain but none was expected and none came. Still the wind whipped past me and as I watched for a sunset I saw the shades of grey fall to black and suddenly it was dark. Somewhere there was a beautiful sunset and my shades of grey was pretty too.

This morning I spent time at a restaurant with friends. We had a fantastic server named Kiefer and he seemed to have a sixth sense about making customers happy. His name was unique and easy to remember and I was reminded our parents sometimes are very careful in how they chose and choose the names of their children. I know I spent a significant amount of time with my now ex-wife and to decide the name of each child.

At one point before our food came Kiefer came over and spoke about his name. Unlike the rather famous actor his name was based on a famous swimmer who also created a famous swim line and was far more famous than the actor and far more widespread if you think about it. Of course lots of people know the actor far better, but this young gentleman was proud of his name and gave details as I looked it up and we laughed about someone we didn’t know but probably used every day. It made me smile.

As usual I called him by his name each time he came to the table and tried to make him feel special in one way or another and spent time continuing to talk and laughing more than a little. That interaction is important, because those who there’s food or service or whatever are not empty beings, they are people too and need to be treated as such and not ignored or overlooked. Also, and I reiterate this from time to time, the most important sound to anyone is the sound of their own name. It rings like a melody in their head and defines the fact that they are special.

I hope I put enough time into everyone’s life to let them know that they are special.

So as the sun sets on another day, take care of the name of others and treat it special so that they know you acknowledge them as a person. No matter their caste for specialty they should all be treated with equal reverence and we should all remember as we came. Keep making the world special every day by lifting others up and rising with them, no matter what.

Sleep sweet, love life, and I should swim more…
