The sun sets on another day…
Sunset was filled with color as we prepared for another night of Northern Lights. Last night we missed them but tonight we were going to find some fun color in the sky.
I don’t usually share strange things like this but it was very different. At 10:00 at night we could not see the Northern Lights that were supposed to come again and were watching closely. The area around my house is full of trees so it was harder to see. It was time to take a drive.
I thought that the place I take many sunset pictures would be the perfect spot to be able to see out across Lake Michigan and see to the north where lights would shine and the world would be amazing. As we got closer and closer to that area cars were everywhere and what we drove into was a circus. Hundreds of cars lying the area and people with all form of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage partied in the street as we tried to get by. There was no place for anyone as we wandered forward and finally after far too long we got past it. I have never seen so many people at that beach area.
I took the long way around to avoid the chaos and as I got back close to the house I decided why not try the bigger beach with more parking places maybe everyone avoided it.
I was a glutton for punishment and the bigger beach was even worse. It was pure chaos and I looked at the area in disbelief. On the best day of the summer I had never seen as many people here. Worse, someone in a minivan had thought it was smart to drive across the sand and had dug themselves a hole harshly on the road and partially not. As a result traffic was at a standstill and everyone was trying to help with no success.
With a lot of strange finagling we managed to escape and in doing so found our way home laughing all the way.
No I did not get to see the Northern Lights this time, but it’s okay. The sun will send another barrage of solar energy hell bent on destruction of our planet, and our Van Allen belts will stop it and put on a light show again. It’s all fun and I will enjoy it.
So as the sun sets on another day, I hope you got to see the spectacle. I hope you got to see something that makes you happy and helps you smile. Mostly I hope you realize that you can’t drive through sand with a minivan, you might just get stuck. Find a way to enjoy the day and they did get out with the help of a big truck. Keep being awesome, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and happy auroras…
