The sun sets on another day…
The thunder rolled in the distance, but came noi closer. The tinkle of windchimes built upon the sullen silence and gave life to the faceless sky. Branches waved in the gusts and clicked and clacked across the non descript sky. Pine needles created whistles as the wind passed through. It was a quiet thunder of sounds.
I am always fascinated by sound. When I was just a little younger I was asked which sense I would rather lose, sight or hearing. I thought about it and answered sight simply because I loved sound. I grew up with music. I felt the thrum of sound every day of my life. One of the greatest gifts I’ve ever gotten was the wind chimes that are outside my door and they still calm my heart and check my mood whatever it may be.
Many people take for granted the sounds that surround them always. They do not hear the crashing waves at sunset, they ignore the variety of birds with unique song calling out to the world. They don’t hear their heart beating in the night. They don’t cure the breeze and all that it brings along with it.
If the sunset paints the picture of the world the sounds around us create the setting and in spite of sometimes crazy sounds we can all enjoy everything that is thrown our way if we just listen. Maybe that’s all we need to do is just listen.
If you were given a choice between sight and sound what would you choose? Do you take what you see for granted? Do you take what you hear for granted? In the end perhaps all of our senses are gifts that we should enjoy for each moment we have them.
So as the sun sets on another day, take a deep breath. Feel the world around you. Listen to everything going on. Enjoy the moments that lay before you and I hope you hear them all, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and tinkle tinkle little star…
