The sun sets on another day…
Sunset was again obscured in the clouds, but as I walked around and darkness fell, the cloud shifted and the stars shown brightly in the sky. I look to the north and saw the Big Dipper and smiled and wondered if it would miss a sunset. I know, it was a silly thought, but who knows.
I think it’s kind of funny what we adapt to and consider normal. Quite often it truly seems as though we spend far too much time looking at how a shoe looks, but not how it feels or fits. This is where it gets complicated, we also have many people who don’t really care how it fits or looks, they just want to have something and keep going.
I had a friend, a long long time ago, who when I met him the first time his shoes were held together with duct tape and pieces of cardboard. I didn’t say anything, because I thought that would be rude. Instead I spent time with him and learned that he was particularly frugal, but incredibly generous. He stated simply that it was more important for him to help someone else and he could tighten his belt a little more easily. I thought about him today as I was going through a lot of old computer equipment and discarding it, it made me wince a little thinking about the past and the changes in computers and systems over time.
I also know many people that buy incredibly expensive shoes that they cannot stand to walk in for more than a few minutes. They look great, but they’re not practical by any means. These people are far more concerned about how others see them then they are about their own comfort, and I guess that’s okay.
Another group of people I know buy shoes completely for comfort, they don’t care at all about what they look like, it is all about what they feel. I find myself gravitating towards these pioneers who often find the ugliest shoes known to man but when you put them on you truly feel like you are floating on air.
Who cares, right?
My point in this ridiculous rant about shoes is that in life perhaps we should worry more about how we feel during the day and how effective we are being than about how things look. Perhaps we should take a little time and realize that spending a little extra isn’t a bad thing if it gives us comfort, and along the way maybe we could combine a little of all three and make ourselves feel a little bit better about life
Still, who cares.
Life is too short, just make every day the best that it can be and as comfortable as it can be while reaching for the stars and trying to make things a little better. After all if the shoe fits, we should wear it unless it really doesn’t feel that good, maybe then we should try something new.
So as the sun sets on another day, I hope you find a shoe that fits and a life that makes you comfortable. I hope every day makes you feel better about yourself and the world around you. Mostly I hope that you feel good about yourself each and every day, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and funny shoes…
