The sun sets on another day…
I watched a lot today. I interacted more at the Lakeside Emporium, calling out to customers, trying to get them to come in, enjoying each moment someone honked back, waved, or laughed with me, or even at me. I enjoyed it all. To someone It may have made a difference.
I wrote about similar here.
If you have read the starfish story before you might ask why I said it was similar. I am getting there. Yesterday as I talked to a lot of people, coming and going, I had a child visit with me several times. He was not a young child, probably 10-13 years old, full of questions and child like vigor. at several points his questions were a little over the top, but I have learned to expect that in today’s world. At one point as I was using a speaker and waving to people he said to me, “Why do you bother. Nobody cares, and no one is going to come in from anything you do. I laughed for a second, kept going and he repeated the question.
My answer was easy, as several cars turned in I said “They may or may not be here because I was calling out to them. I made a choice to try. I will keep trying and if it makes the difference of one person, it was worth it.”
He followed with “but no one cares” to which I replied, “I do, I care.”
He smirked and I replied, “Every day you have a choice to be positive or negative. You can let the world beat you down, let people tell you that what you are doing is worthless or worse, that you are, or quit because of an unkind word. You can also step up, and overcome. You have a choice to give in the those negative influences, or to rise above them. You also have a choice each day on whether you want to be that person who steps up higher and tries to help people up, or someone who is negative and tries to slow people down. Which do you want to be?” I asked.
There was a perplexed look for a moment, then he replied, “I don’t want to be negative.”
I smiled back and said, it is your choice each day.
We all have a choice each day to be positive, negative, or to be apathetic in this world. The world would be a better place if we found the positive each day. The world would be better if we gave people a hand up instead of looking for ways to knock them down. Let’s choose to make the world a better place.
How? Easy. Let’s be kind, be thoughtful, and find the positives in people. Let’s talk about people’s good instead of thinking about “how they could be better” In short, let’s help each other forward and up until we are more as a group than less, and maybe those people trying to make us less will fall away or better, jump on with us and be happier. It is worth a try.
So as the sun sets on another day, I find people are amazing. Of course there are many who are more amazing than amazing, but in the end, everyone deserves a chance. Help someone up and at sometime I hope someone helps you up as well. Laugh with them, be a part, and make a difference to at least one person, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and make a difference…
