The sun sets on another day
Sunset was cool and frisk and The Mists made it a little bit cooler. It’s not as cold as it was recently but still you could feel the chill and miss the sunset and all of its beauty tie above.
If you haven’t figured out from many of the posts on 29000sunsets, I like movies. Today I saw a movie that was not what I expected even though the reviews I had read were very clear that the movie is not what people will expect. Let me explain.
I like movies that operate on many different levels. Telling me a simple story through a movie practically boring. I believe that I see things this way because it is how life is. In the movie Civil War I was not sure what to expect. What I found was a series of stories outlining growth how we approached the world. It wasn’t just a single person but each person had a growth path or a degradation path and in the movie we got to see how those evolved.
Of course there were many people who degraded to a terrible level. Violence has a habit of bringing out the worst in some and something like a civil war could easily do so. We also saw people rise to the occasion and be the best possible person they could be. In the middle was a group of photographers and reporters that were going through changes of their own. The was on a young woman who was starting out as a photojournalist and her metamorphosis as the movie progressed.
Don’t expect spoilers from me, but there is significant violence and reality in this movie that challenges your mind constantly. Don’t expect to have a break while you watch as every moment has meaning. Although some of the events are subtle, some are quite obvious and pointed. As the movie ends and the credits roll I hope you take a moment question who you are and who you would become under this type of duress.
I think the movie is very worthwhile but I’m not sure if it’s one I will watch many times.
