Darkness falls…

The sun sets on another day…

I had a long discussion with someone who reads this thing from time to time. They felt I was being stepford sometimes in the way I approach as it came up about yesterdays almost post. What that means is I was being somewhat untrue.

I explained I was not attempting to be untrue and so I will explain how I approach this every day.

If we all knew we had 29000 sunsets, how would we react, how would we live? Most self help books feel that putting any number on life can make people worry too much, but some take the stance that if you put a limit, then every day is a gift. So as I write each night it is because I want to point out the positives we may be missing. Sometimes I hit the mark, but sometimes I miss. Always I want to get people to see a potential side that is a way to move forward and potentially be happy.

This doesn’t always work. Sometimes I see things during the day and as I write the flavor turns less than positive. It is those stories that I set aside, and will someday post in one setting. After all, there are things each and every day that test us, but if we learn but accept those more difficult items we may have the ability to rise above them and see the positives. To me, it is like flying a plane in the clouds, if you can rise above the clouds you will see the most amazing sunset each time, but if you stay below you may experience the light, but you may still be lost in the fog.

There are things that bring us up each day, but there is a shadowy side of that coin that tries to wear us down, and we choose how to deal with it. Sometimes we choose right. So as you see the person person who lies to you, hang on to the truth. As you feel the person who hurts you, hold on to the good times. As you feel the darkness, hold on to the light. All this is possible if you only realize there is a good side to everything, and if there isn’t a good side, look for one.

I considered the message I got yesterday, and noted to myself that I have felt more pain than many, and less than others, but somehow I find a way each day to see beyond the negative, and smile. I have been beaten, and rose up to be more. I have been heartbroken, and found a way above it. I have seen death, and found life. Each negative we see in life has a greater, not equal, positive. There is a way to positive in everything we do if you only take the time to look. Sometime sit is hard, but I try and try to share each day and do so.

When I started 29000 sunsets it was a reference for my thoughts for my children, but it became more. I have talked to a lot of great people, and seen many more. There is a lot more to do, many more thoughts to write.

So as the sun sets on another day, consider the positives in your life, grab onto them, sweep away the negatives, and make the world a better place in the process.

Sleep sweet, love life, and live for happiness each day…

(By the way, tomorrow in the United States of America, many will vote. Make a good choice for you and for our country, but show your patriotism and vote.)

A life of truth…

The sun sets on another day…

The sun rises in the east, and it sets in the west. As long as the language is the same, there can be no question to this, it is as true as the world, and is truth. For so long as there is a sun in the sky there will be a sunrise and a sunset. I hope it fills us with beauty and makes us see more beauty each and every day.

I spent a lot of time writing another lost post today, and it too goes in the archives of posts I wrote that do not need to be written nor read at this time. Who I am and who I try to be is someone who is accepting until it is time to not be accepting. As such, I can only say today was a beautiful sunset, filled with truth and the promise of tomorrow. A tomorrow filled with hope as we find passion and beauty in each and every day, and love in every moment that we let it be part of us.

So as the sun set son another day, remember to hold onto beauty, love, and passion, and never assume you know another persons mind for in truth you can only know your own. Be that person that believes in people until it is time not to believe, and loves as much as possible. Mostly believe in your friends, you family, and those who love you and make every day a day to remember.

Sleep sweet, love life, and live for truth, each and every day…

A piece of string…

The sun sets on another day…

One of my favorite authors for a long time was  Guy de Maupassant. A long time ago he wrote a story called “A piece of String” that I thought of a lot lately. In the story the main character is chastised and their reputation destroyed because of perception, not reality. In their case it was due to no one believing that anyone would reach down and be so thrift as to pick up a piece of string, and as such, blamed him for a theft. No words could dissuade the villagers from thinking what they thought, after all, if others said it, it must be true.

The sun always rises in the east, and sets in the west. No one can debate it, it is fact. It would be nice if everything in the world was as factual as that, but it is not. There are a plethora of pretentious positions on every item known to man. I can only say with truth that we as people should be accepting and honorable to all positions. Positions are built by the history of each individual, not always by fact, and even fact is not always as factual as it is believed to be. (I can give many examples, but they are long and unnecessary to point out something most know as truth.) The point is the truth you know might be the truth but no matter how much you know it is the truth, it might not be as well.

For our poor man in the story, “A Piece of String”, he died with the truth, and knew it was the truth, and was never exonerated. (Icky huh?)

So as the sun sets on another day, and it will, watch the sun rise, and watch the sun set, and enjoy every moment. Feel the passion in your heart and your mind, and as you search for your truth, remember, it might very well be the truth, but it might not.

Sleep sweet, live for beauty, live for truth, and love to the moon and back…

Beauty and…

The sun sets on another day…

There are days that are amazing, fantastic, and wonderful. Days that take our breath away, and sunsets that mesmerize our minds, hearts and soul. Those days show us the essence of beauty.

There are people that do this as well. They interact with us in ways that bring us up, not down. That show us the power of life, the thrill of the day, and the moments we should be part of each day. These people give us true beauty in our hearts, and the power of positiveness.

(Now there is another side, and that of course could be the beast or worse, but I am going to leave that in the corner, as I know a few of them and they deserve to be in the corner)

It is our duty, well, at least in my opinion, to be those points of light that show the way to beauty, positiveness, happiness, and give others the ability to rise up as well. I feel strongly we have the ability to make the world a better place if we just try, live for truth, and show others how great life can be.

So as the sun sets on another day, be an example of beauty in the world, if only for a moment, and show people the light that shines deep within, no matter what.

Sleep sweet, have fun, and enjoy your day….

Illusions

The sun sets on another day…

The questions we should all ask ourselves each day should be “what if”. What if the world we know is an illusion. The majestic sunset closing down the day is actually shades of grey, and not the mystical colors that dance across the sky being chased by darkness. What if the people around us are much different than we see them? What if.

In the movie “Shallow Hal”, Hal gets to see the world not as his eyes perceive it but as people are on the inside. It was meant to be a comedy but it was a treatise on life when we saw the “spell removed” and the burn victims that were so beautiful were ravaged, the beautiful women were not so pretty and the pretty not so beautiful. What if we could all see that daily? What if we could see the people who were beautiful inside, and those who are not so beautiful.

I have met so many wonderful individuals in my life. Some were beautiful on the outside and hollow inside, some were beautiful inside perhaps not as beautiful on the outside, but the point was I had to get to know them to understand who they are inside. With some the truth came quickly, and some it took time to know who they were, and learn the beauty or ugliness within them. The point is, it is often an illusion what we see on the surface.

The Japanese say that man has three faces. The first face, you show to the world. The second face, you show to your close friends, and your family. The third face, you never show anyone. It is the truest reflection of who you are. I tend to think we have a number of additional faces for other circles, and circles within circles. Some are real, some are as fragile as smoke.

The point is we all have illusions and we all see illusions and we need to see past the illusions to the real people beneath. I tend to think there are more great people in the world than not, and those that live in “smoke” will not be happy in the end when the smoke disappears.

So as the sun sets on another day, live for truth, show your true face to those you can, and when they accept you, be that person that rises above and makes the world a better place, no matter what.

Sleep sweet, love life, and live, just live…

A Beautiful Smile…

The sun sets on another day…

As the sun sets it takes with it the light of the day, and leaves colors trailing and a promise for tomorrow.

Today was a sad day. I went to a funeral where a young lady passed at only 23, but as I listened there was hope and a promise of tomorrow. She was vibrant and alive, and each day she tried to make people laugh. Taken before her time, she was surrounded by her friends in life, and all were appreciative of who she was and the legacy she left. They said she had a beautiful smile, and her eyes were always inquisitive, looking for the next bit of mischief.

We have no promise of tomorrow, we should spend each day living for the truth, and being the special person we should be. In the end, we are important to those around us, and those we touch, and should be a guiding light to everyone we can.

So as the sun sets on another day, take a moment and appreciate your life, those people around you, and hold onto the wonderful moment, no matter what.

Sleep sweet, love life, and shine a light to the moon and back, and the stars beyond…

(Meghan you will be missed)

Into the fray of a day…

The sun sets on another day…

As days and nights go by the sun winds across the sky in a never ending arc that lights our days, soothes our mornings, and excites our eves.

It is wonderful in life how many people can do the same, by lighting our lives with their very being. In the end, the light and darkness are separated only by moments and we have a choice in which one to live.

Choose both, and enjoy the bright light of day, and the cooling eve of night, and in the process find the balance you deserve, no matter what.

Sleep sweet, love life, and live for the truth, each and every day…

A tomato in your hand…

The suns sets on another day…

Try as you might you can never change the path of the sun, nor get the sun to change its time, or hold it from setting, keep the light on, or in any other way ensure the sun changes for you. All you can hope is that each day it will rise and set for you, and it does so without question or pause.

Funny, huh?

Accepting things you cannot change is tough in the world. In fact, it has gotten me into a lot of trouble, as it does many.

I remember the movie “Instinct” with Anthony Hopkins and Cuba Gooding Jr. At one point in the movie Anthony Hopkins pins Cuba to a table and is ready to kill him, he asks a simple question, “What have I taken away from you.” The answers that follow are: One is control, One is Freedom, and finally the truth, illusions.

In life we are faced with many truths, and some of them are painful. The most painful may well be the truth we are not in control. We cannot make the sun rise or set in any way not make it more beautiful, or less beautiful base don what we want. By that same token we cannot make a friend, it is a collaboration, nor can we make someone love us, nor love someone on command. I have told my children many times that relationships and interactions are usually like holding a tomato in your hand. You have to hold it just right based on the tomato. If you are too tight, you may squeeze it out between your fingers, too loose it may fall away because it can be slippery, Just right, you can hold on, but you have to adjust all the time. In my opinion the only control you have is your vision of your illusion of control.

Assessing control on a person is near impossible, and in some cases dangerous. Imagine saying a person is so wrong and then trying to shut them down, you end up running for office then (Funny joke eh) The only control you have is the control over yourself. You can choose to be a great person and live life with an always full cup (Because if you drink the water the cup is still full of air) or you cannot. Don’t be in the trap of thinking you have any control over others, because then you may be surprised in potentially difficult ways at how many illusions are in our world.

So as the sun sets on another day, make yourself the best person you can be and good people will come to you (Maybe some bad ones too). Just do what you think is right, make good decisions, and live a good life, no matter what.

Sleep sweet, love life and smile for a while…

Halloween and the thrill of fear…

The sun sets on another day…

It is Halloween once more. Last year I simply wished for us to be thankful for our children. This year, perhaps is a little different.

As we watch the sun set, there are colors changing ever so slightly, a shimmer appears and disappears as the sun passes behind it, and we are usually a little apprehensive or at least excited as the sun passes forward quickly, and suddenly is gone.

Today we celebrate Halloween. Once a celebration of the hearth, and often a journey into fear, or is it? Someone special gave me a book some time ago called The Thrill of Fear, and this week I have seen several special that reaffirm the idea that we are excited by fear, and that emotion can make us motivated in so many ways. Sometimes it is motivation to fight, sometimes to learn, sometimes to run like heckie derns, but always there is an emotion and emotion is the center of passion, right?

Perhaps we need to consider on days like today when children are running for candy as we did so many years ago, that there is a certain need for fear, or at least motivation to see passion in a new way.

No matter what, enjoy this eve of fun, and enjoy the moments tomorrow as we all start a new month.

So as the sun sets on another day, enjoy life, even if it is a little scary, and make the best of each and every day, no matter what.

Sleep sweet, don’t be afraid, and love life, each and every day…

Sing a song…

The sun sets on another day…

Sing, sing a song ,Sing out loud, Sing out strong, Sing of good things not bad,Sing of happy not sad.

Sing, sing a song Make it simple to last Your whole life long Don’t worry that it’s not Good enough for anyone Else to hear Just sing, sing a song.

Sing, sing a song Let the world sing along Sing of love there could be Sing for you and for me.

Sing, sing a song Make it simple to last Your whole life long Don’t worry that it’s not Good enough for anyone Else to hear Just sing, sing a song.

To me the important line in this fun son was “Don’t worry that it’s not Good enough for anyone Else to hear”. It really is not, the truth is we need to be accountable to ourselves first, and do the best we can to be happy and hope to bring others with us along the way. A simple post for the day.

So as the sun sets on another day, just enjoy life and be true, and the rest should fall into place.

Sleep sweet, love life, and live it each and every day!
