The sun sets on another day…and what a sunset it was….
I cannot do justice to tonight’s sunset by photo or words, just as I cannot do justice to many of the people I have met in my life who have touched me. As I looked out onto the sunset and controlled my camera with my phone I was just overcome. I considered this fantastic sunset, and the beautiful scene laid out in front of me the Harry Nilsson Song “Remember Christmas” was playing in my mind. It is important we remember. Not just the sunsets, but each person who we interacted with in those sunsets. The people we laughed with, cried with, enjoyed, and even did not enjoy. It is important that we remember so we can understand it is the interactions with people that made us who we are and who we have become.
This is not an easy task, there are many, many days, situations, and people to consider, but it is a worthwhile task as we look upon the scenes before us, and feel the passion in our hearts, and in our souls. It is worthwhile because we are worthwhile, each and every person has their worth, even if it does not seem so.
So as I considered the people of my past I walked to the stairs of the beach where today’s sunset was taken, walked up the stairs, took a breath and the words from the from the song came to a crescendo in my mind. As I took that breath, I came upon a bench at the top of the deck that had been empty mere minutes ago. On the bench now lay what was below.(See picture) In that moment I considered more than words, but true remembrance and how much I had loved, and been loved, and how life is a series of dreams.
So as the sun sets on another day, take a moment, take a breath, and remember those people who were your dreams, those people who made you who you are, those that gave you the goodness you have become, those that gave you the honor in your heart and soul, and those that gave you your ability to rise above and make the world a better place. Most of all, remember those that gave you forgiveness, or showed you a pathway to forgiveness and overlooked your mistakes to allow you to be who you really could be. Close your eyes, and remember, and the world will be a better place.
Tonight, for a moment I change just a little and ask you to sleep sweet, and just love…
