The summer is upon us…

The sun sets on another day…

You have to wonder, er, well I have to wonder. It is beautiful outside, warm and inviting to all, with the heat of the sun embracing us with its warmth and making the land flourish. Our seasons are so complex that in mythology we explained them away as a fight between gods, and the goddess Demeter causing the seasons over a bad deal with her amazingly beautiful daughter. It was much easier to consider this for ancient man than the currents and eddies of the jet stream, wind patters, tilt of the earth in relation to the sun and a hundred other technical reasons. It is always easier to give a simple solution and just move on never realizing the more complex solution even exists.

So as the sun sets on another day we consider a bit of mythology and simply appreciate Persephone. Her radiant beauty fills us with awe, and her fair wisdom makes us smile with delight as she exists on earth. (In myth) When she leaves, we will be saddened knowing she is gone, but happy that someday we will see her again, and then the world will be a better place.

(You can read the myth in a variety of places online or in “Bulfinch’s Mythology”. (Don’t translate it from the Latin, it is rough, or was when I did it a long time ago)

Sleep sweet, dream a little dream, enjoy imagination, and love life more every day, no matter what…
