The sun sets on another day…
The measure of each sunset is completely the ones before. Even though each sunset is amazing and beautiful we cannot help but compare them. It just makes sense.
So how then do we measure ourselves? Do we measure ourselves compared to others? Maybe not, and others may not be as positive or negative and make the measure skewed. Do we measure based on our heroes? Maybe not, because they may rise to a different level in whatever we see them as a hero. Do we measure against our leaders? Perhaps not as our leaders may not rise to a high level or may stay at a high level, making both measures incomplete.
Where then should we find a measure on our selves? Perhaps we should measure ourselves against the person we were yesterday to see if we have truly achieved our goals. Perhaps if we did so we could move to a new level each day, and measure ourselves more effectively, we could each day set a new goal to grow.
For example, of we wanted to learn more about a subject we could set a goal to read about it each day, and at each day we could measure our success, and find a way to achieve the goal. If we wanted to be a good person, each day we could measure if we were a good person not based on anyone else but us. This was we can grow at our pace, fast or slow, and find a way to be that person we should be.
Funny huh, not to measure against anyone but our self? How would you do?
So as the sun sets on another day, the best equation is an equation where you can hold yourself responsible. Wouldn’t the world be a wonderful place if people grew each day without thinking about how they measure up to everyone else, but instead paid attention to what it means to be good, bad, successful, unsuccessful or any other type and measured themselves against their yesterday, and pressed for a better tomorrow. I realize this means holding yourself accountable, but if you are not the person you want to be, only you can change that. Let’s change for the better, no matter what.
