The sun sets on another day…

Guess what, the sun will set and the sun will rise. It will do so at a predetermined time in the morning and eve, and it can be predicted down to a second. Nothing you can do will change that, nothing at all.

Scary isn’t it. considering something out of your control? In my opinion most of life is out of our control. I know I know, some people will disagree. They will state that they can save money and control their finances, that they can set rules with their children and force them to do things, that they can handle their car perfectly. You can train a dog or a horse perfectly, but they still may surprise you from time to time. So it goes and I bet you will find few things you really can control much, if at all.

I suggest to you that almost all control is an illusion. If you save money for an attempt to control it, there always seems to be something out there ready to take it away. If you set rules with children, they can disagree or blatantly skip those rules, and if you are driving a car with utmost perfection, well, you know, it can still break, and oops, no control. So is control really as important as we think? I would like to believe it is not, because it just creates angst. Sure, we should try to do the right thing, we should press for some semblance of control but we have to be willing to accept that their may not be that control and we may lose control. In the process, maybe we can let go of a few weird emotions because the control we think we have, just may not matter as much.

I like to believe I have reasonable control, as in my 20s I experienced a situation where I was out of control. I realized then, the control I thought I had was an illusion, and though I needed to maintain as much control as I could, it was capable of being taken away very easily. I learned to control when I could, but let go when I couldn’t. It may not work for everyone, but it worked for me.

So as the sun sets on another day. Let go a little. You cannot guarantee the perfect job, it ma not be perfect, but you can do as well as you can with it. You cannot make your children perfect, you can attempt to guide them, but they will be who they are in the end. You cannot make someone love you, and yes, the more you try to control there, the more they slip through your fingers. All you can do is be the best you can be, and hope that your vision, if it is a good one, finds a way to you. Push for things to be better, but don’t try to control it all, in the process, make the world a better place. No matter what.

Sleep sweet, let go, and find someone who will love you to the moon and back, and the stars beyond…
