Hidden walls…

The sun sets on another day…

The sun was again in full view today until the bank of clouds pressed up against the edge of night and stole away the light. It was at this point, however, that a brilliant rainbow shimmered on the edge of the clouds and lit up the sky like an old fashioned drive in movie. I watched in awe as the colors shimmered, presented themselves, and were drawn away as the light was extinguished in the twilight sky. The wall of clouds had done their work, taking away the light, and heralding more snow. Only a short time before I would not have imagined the wall even being there, but it was, simply waiting, waiting for the right time.

Walls are pretty cool. I am sitting in a room right now with 3 walls on my sides, but no real walls. The frames are there and the foundations to make walls, but for now it is nothing but a skeleton, a vision of a wall. Someday these will be as real as any other wall, but for now, they are just there.

It is funny how we all have our own type of walls. I remember Les Nessman on “WKRP in Cincinnati” and his imaginary walls. He treated them as real as you or I would treat a concrete barrier. In fact sometimes those barriers are even more impressive than true walls. In “Support your Local Sherriff a few words become more powerful than any walls could be, simply by putting them out there.

Sometimes we all use walls to protect ourselves and to protect others. Walls can keep us safe, whether real or imaginary, and in the end, a wall is a barrier, between something that you want to separate from something else.

I would like to suggest we try to break down our walls. After all, if our walls are up, aren’t we protecting ourselves from life as well? Isn’t it better to live a little and move forward than to just build walls all the time? All good questions, but questions only you can answer.

So as the sun sets on another day, I think I will walk between the walls, and laugh at the thought of them. Perhaps we all should walk between the walls, and when we need to, build them up, but try to leave them down to keep our hearts and minds open, no matter what.

Sleep sweet, love life, and live it every day…
