The sun sets on another day…
Someone special wrote something to their children today that made me think of that message, and the ones that were missing, so I thought I would start filling in some blanks, after all, today is an amazing day and the purpose of 29000 sunsets was to deliver messages.
Message 1: It’s okay to cry when you’re hurt. It’s also okay to smash (some) things; but, wash your face, clean your mess, and get up off the floor when you’re done. You don’t belong down there.
It is funny how some people write this to girls, when it applies to boys and girls. It is OK to cry. It is not OK to cry all the time, nor to cry at the wrong time, but a life without that emotion can leave you hollow and empty. True warriors have something to fight for, true fighters want to win, to say they have no emotion is to say there is nothing worth fighting for. To build a life without taking time to cry or grieve, well, it is not much of a life.
For my son, cry when it feels right, be angry when you have to, and control it when you should. For my daughters, cry when it feels right (wow, same thing) be angry when you have to be angry. In the end don’t let the world knock you down as you know you can always get up. Feel what you must fight as you need to and when the day is over, never go to sleep sad, if you need me I will be there.
It is a good message, a strong message and one we all should heed. Don’t be that person that thinks they are too strong to cry, be that person who knows why to stand up and overcome, and in the end the world might be a better place.
So as the sun sets on another day, life is full of interesting moments. If you can’t cry at some of them, well, it might not be as meaningful. Reach out, feel, and know what others are feeling, and be there for your kids and those who need you, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and live it….
