Rock, sand, and water…

The sun sets on another day…

As the bulldozer dug deeper into my yard I was reminded of a video I saw online some time ago. A teacher was asking if a glass was full. He filled it with rocks, then pebbles and each time asked his students, “Is it full now”, each time they said yes, then he added sand, then water. It appeared there was no end to the depth of “full”.

At the same time I thought of the resilience of people. How we can handle so much, and then a little more. I considered all the times I had heard “The lord never gives you more than you can handle.” and all the times I replied. “I wish he’d stop thinking so highly of me”.  For a long time it was always , “Another day, another challenge, and another and another and another until it seemed like there were nothing but problems to be solved, and no time to solve them.

There always seems to be a way, it has been through friends who are there no matter what, and other people who are inspiration at times, and even the problems, as each problem can help a person grow.

When people talk to me, I try to help them all I can, and the best advice I can give is you are not alone, (No there are no aliens behind you) You are not alone and you can reach out for help. Sometimes even a kind word can be the difference a person needs to go the next step. Be that person who helps another person. Listen, talk, do what is necessary, not because you have to but because tomorrow you could need help. After all, we are all in this together, and believe it or not, you can’t do better than you.

So as the sun sets on another day, we have a choice each day, and we can choose not only to be positive, but to find a way. We can help others when we can, and help ourselves when we need to because after all, we do need to. There are days where it will seem like too much, but rise up and be more. Make a difference, if not to others, to yourself, and be there as you can, no matter what.

Sleep sweet, love life, and the glass may never be full…
