The sun sets on another day…
Sunset? Well, not tonight, but it was high up there and I knew that it was calling to me, I just could not rise above the clouds today.
I read a post today that you can find here. It reminded me of the stories I associate with a great many of the things I own. I considered this as I was driving this afternoon and looked up to my windshield. there, hanging from my mirror was an item I constantly reflect on, and have to answer questions about from time to time.
The item is not important, the question is: How many times in life does something small mean something much bigger to us? How many times do we look at an item and are reminded of something much more?
The answer is not 42, instead it is a series of other questions: How do we remember? Why do we remember? How is it that something small can mean so much? What makes one thing more special than others?
The answers may be nondescript pieces of memories and a lot of thoughts on the subject. Perhaps it is easy, sometimes something little can open a door to something much bigger. Sometimes, when all we have left is a piece of glass, a marble, a handwritten card, a picture, or a toy camera, we find comfort in all that it stands for to us.
So if it is the past, why does it matter?
As we press to our 29000 sunsets, we don’t whine about our past, or pine about our future, we define ourselves in the present. BUT just because we don’t whine about our past doesn’t mean we can’t rejoice in it. Just because it was in the past doesn’t mean we can’t learn from it. We can learn so much and sometimes, that little toy car from so many years ago, can unlock more than we can imagine with a memory of a great time with someone special. In the process, we can find our way to the best present we can have, right?
So as the sun sets on another day, there are so many stories fro so many things and moments in our life we could write a book about it, right? Consider the shadows of your past, consider those things you need to remember, and sometimes, having a token will take you there, smile with it, go with it, and in the process, make the world a better place for you and those around you, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and live it every day…
