The sun sets on another day…
If you don’t read often or have not read 29000 sunsets before I should warn you I am a movie nut. I have seen more movies than most. Tonight, as the sun set and the snow fell, I watched the new “Jumanji: The Next Level.
I know, this is a fun movie. It is more fun than most because of Dwayne Johnson and his ever surprising flexibility. There are twists and turns and a series of adventures and misadventures that people can only be excited about, well, at least I was excited about it. Unlike critics who look for plot holes and perilous participles, I usually look for two strange things: an escape for a while from the increasingly odd world we live in; and heart.
The escape delivers in so many ways. Action that can only be described as pure fun, and characters that still deliver after the first two movies in the series. I was impressed by everyone, and I enjoyed the quips and conversations that built the movie. Want explosions? Punches? Excitement? Well, here it is. No it is not the James Bond, Mission Impossible Jack Reacher, John Wick style we are used to, it is clean fun with realistically unrealistic action packed into a fun story.
More important was heart. This movie uncovers friendship and those powerful emotions at the core of it in many interactions, and then gives us the final word on life, getting old is a gift. On this, 8 days before Christmas I can say with certainty that getting old is a gift, and this movie was as well. Worth the fun, worth the beginning, the middle, and the end. So what if some of it was predictable, it was fun. It will make you smile, laugh , and be happy to be alive, and yes, it may make you tear up a little, but it is good all the way.
So as the sun set s on another day, Smile and laugh. 8 days left and we have a gift. Our 29000 sunsets are not over, we have today, let’s live it and be happy, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and live it to the end…
