Why miss another?

March 18, 2021

Do what de hey?

The sun sets on another day…

Sunset was striking and the mood was very soft and sublime. Often when I watch sunset I can’t do anything but watch in utter awe of the moments passing before me. After all how could I not.

I’m fascinated by the words people use. It often makes me want to ask “Do what de hey?” or eve “Umm, what?” or a lot of other interesting questions . It’s not that everyone needs to speak in the same way it’s just that sometimes people need to consider what they’re saying before they say it. Myself included.

How many times have you been in a situation where you have said something and realized sometime later how idiotic you must have sounded? How many times would it have just been easier to not say a thing?

I find myself there quite often lately. Well not actually speaking to people but reading what some people have to say and sometimes talking to some people on the telephone. Peoples positions in this strange world right now are so full of opinion and improper language that I often just sit back and shake my head. Do you want to know why? I’ll tell you anyway.

Science is full of proving things through interpretation of results. In any type of scientific theory it does not become scientific fact until enough data exists to throw away the outliers if any. Often though the means of measurement of a time or the theories of a time are disproven when more information is available or better methods of measurement. Science, therefore, is always undergoing changes unless it becomes a scientific absolute. I wish there were more of those.

When I was doing Calc one and Calc two all of my time was spent doing proofs. Well most of my time was spent doing that. Doing a proof is painfully obvious because 1 + 1 is always going to equal 2. to me that’s one of the most fundamental scientific proofs. Today though science is a series of statistical probabilities and methodologies that stray from the idea of 1 + 1 = 2 and instead focuses on subsets of data and people just go with it.

If you have ever watched “Family Feud” you will understand exactly what I’m talking about. “We asked 100 men…” gives a different answer every time then “We asked 100 women…” or “We asked 100 people…” so when someone is talking about four out of five dentists they need to quantify if there old or young experienced or just out of school or 100 other permutations to determine who those dentists were before we can give this wildly accurate answer that those dentists were right.

By the same token if you ask 100 people around the world the same question the culture language and interpretation will modify the answer in the area. I know, what does this have to do with sunsets?

nothing at all. I leave you with this. As you are standing on your high ground thinking you have the high ground with your study or your information remember there may be something just a little bit higher than you and you better be considering that too before you say you are the only source of information. After all the high ground usually wins.

So as the sun sets on another day I’m sorry about this incredibly silly rant about verbiage and opinion. Sometimes I just have to right about what I’m thinking about that day and maybe you’ll be thinking about it too the next time you’re so sure of your answer you can’t be wrong.

Sleep sweet, love life, and the statistics show…
