The sun sets on another day…
There are those people that make a difference to you even if they don’t know it. The friend, the acquaintance, the person that makes your meal, your coffee or tea, or just interacts at a local diner and makes the day a little better. The diner we frequent is called “Steak and Egger” and many of the customers and employees are more like family than workers in a super tasty restaurant.
There I have met many people who I talk to often. Among them was Karen. An older woman who came in with her daughter often, and who we saw from time to time. I would always talk to her, and we would laugh about silly things, fun things, or I would just say “hi”. Her eyes always sparkled and she was a stunning example of how people should be. I found out recently she passed away and her daughter wrote to me, thanking me for always being nice to her. I found the memorial and wrote the following:
“There was a spring in her step and a twinkle in her eye. I know Karen from a local restaurant where we talked from time to time. She was always a breath of fresh air in the world, and we would giggle and laugh for a few minutes at a time when our paths crossed. She would be at the restaurant with her daughter and was never shy or without a smile when I saw her. I was proud to share just the minutes I could with her. It is the existence of people like Karen that can bring hope and a smile to the world, I will miss her.”
I can only say we should cherish the people who make us feel good about the world, those that believe in us truly, those that are not fake with their hearts, those that see us for the wonderment we can create. By the same token, we should strive to be that unselfish person who installs happiness in others, who is nice when they don’t have to be, and who finds a wonderful path and forges ahead in making the world a better place.
So as the sun sets on another day, thank you Karen for making the world a better place. Thank you for showing everyone around you how good life can be, and from me, thank you for a few minutes that meant a lot more. You will be missed. For everyone else, be one of those people. Those people that make a difference. Keep making life positive, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and be that person…
