The sun sets on another day…
Today was interesting and as the sun set I had a lot to consider.
I considered the number of people today who said they didn’t read anymore. I considered the number of people today that said they would read when they retire. I considered the number of people today that said there was nothing good to read. I considered the number of people today who said they only watch television. Finally, I considered all of the wonderful people today that talked about books and learning and seeing other perspectives.
It was an interesting day at a craft fair. Craft fairs are built more around crafts than they are books. Still Ingar and I usually sell quite a few books and meet quite a few people when we do a craft fair together. Ingar has young adult books and I have books that lean towards more at adult. Usually I sell more books because I have more titles and a lot of people like to buy sets. Today I sold this as the crowd seemed younger in some ways, and many people we’re just disengaged. It’s OK. I still had a lot of fun.
All I can I ask is if you are talking to an author realize that 6 by 9 sheets of paper before you are not just a book. they are the culmination of hundreds and hundreds of hours of hard work, dedication, imagination, and a lot of revisions. I don’t care what author it is they worked hard even if the book is less than perfect (I am sure there are some exceptions, but not as many as you think). As you spend your time interacting just think about that for a moment.
For me it was a great day and I got to spend time with one of my favorite authors.
So as the sun sets on another day, I hope you read, I hope you find passion before you retirement, I hope you do more than watch television, and I hope you find something good in life to enjoy each day, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and keep reading…
