The sun sets on another day…
Sunset was missed as I spent Valentines day cooking and laughing for a few moments. It was a long day in so many ways.
I took a few minutes today and talked to someone who had been attacked online. I considered how the online world was far more irritating to many people than they realized, then thought about the old days, when the net was fairly new, and the world was a far different place.
It was not to long ago in the grand scope of things that real names were not something you shared online. In those days your handle allowed you some degree of anonymity and you could simply log off it things were too much. As social networking became big business, well, sites wanted you, not a handle, and the world changed.
How different it would have been if that anonymous nature had stayed. Now the online and offline world are near the same. It is a hard pill to swallow that your actions online can translate into real world consequence and that reality is now a mergence of real and unreal.
I listen. I hear, and wonder if those “Netgods” of old laugh at how fragile an online persona is, and how many people get lost in their moment of good or bad. I listen, and I consider all the good we could have done, and how divided it has made us all. If only we applied the good to all we do.
So as the sun sets on another day, consider the sunset, and how wonderful the sunset is and the peace it gives as we watch it set over the horizon. Consider that we as people should give high marks to our fellow man who respects others, and consider that what is real is the people who love you, and are not phantoms but instead show you, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love, and watch the sunset…
