The sun sets on another day…
Sunset slid behind buildings and wires as scarlet hues pasted the skyline. I enjoyed it from the inside, playing with the moments.
It had been months since I had seen a group of people we saw every week during the winter. It had been months since we spent time competing and enjoying the moments. The months had ended, and as we walked into a bar (no, this is not a joke), the people there made us feel welcome and0 at home.
I’m sure you have heard of a show called cheers where everyone knows your name, but have you ever considered how many people do “know your name” and how many people look forward to seeing you? I find it relatively complex sometimes that some people come and go and are not recognized while others are remembered for good or bad. With this thought in mind, I thought of the warm welcome we received last night as though we had never left but were essential to the moment.
Of course, this led me to think further about who in the world would miss you. Have you made an impact on the world where people would miss you? Have you given joy to people? Have you taken joy from people? Have you found a way to see inside people’s hearts or show them inside yours?
These may seem like easy questions, but when you strip away the fluffy parts, family, and those people who use you for a moment, who are the people that genuinely miss you? I can’t answer that for you. Only you can answer that. Take a moment and consider those people that, if you disappeared, would they find you? Smile for a minute at those people who are good friends and laugh for just a moment at those people who always lift you up and never put you down.
I thought a lot about this post and wrote it over several hours because some people will always be there. Some people will miss you with passion. Some people will easily find their way into your hearts and slide into your soul. Some people will be there with you as you face the depths of hell or worse. Without being pessimistic, some will not.
To put it simply, it is nice to be missed. It is incredible to be wanted. It is fantastic to be cared about. It is even more to realize the important people in your life that make that life complete. I am grateful to everyone in my life, and believe it or not, I am grateful to those who are no longer in my life. Ouch.
So as the sun sets on another day, take a moment. Be mindful of those people who will hold you tight. Be mindful of yourself and those you respect, and make the world a better place, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and what a ride…
