The Sun sets on another day…
Sunset. It was full of light and life and clear as the evening sky pushed its way across the land. I could do nothing but smile at the fantastic site before me and then it slipped away. The memory will be mine forever.
I went to a second-hand store the other day and found several hardcover books that I did not have in hardcover. 90% of them were action novels, and to keep them from falling over or being beaten up, I spread them out on the floor of the back of the truck. Later I turned around for a second, looked at the books, and laughed. If I were pulled over, the officer would look in the back at the variety of overly enticing action books with covers that depicted various abstract scenes of violence and probably arrest me. Oops. Actually, the officer might ask to borrow a few usually, and it isn’t a big deal, but the point I am trying to make is how we are defined.
I have read over 300 books this year so far. I have not posted as many reviews as I should have because I’ve enjoyed reading the books. If you were to Define me by the books I read, you might go a little insane. I have read dozens of action novels, even more Romance novels, even more, science fiction, and a series of dramas that do everything from make you laugh to make you cry. I have also read at least ten books on quantum physics, several on lasers, and a series of psychology books ranging from the mundane to the insane.
We often read what interests us. Sometimes not, but usually. As I laughed about the books in my backseat, I wondered about people around me and how we would define those people based on the books they read. How can we define people that way? We can’t. By the same token, we cannot define people by their experiences because each person interprets experiences differently. Saying someone is good or bad because of their living conditions, past jobs, where they have been, and what they have done is only part of the story. The real story is going on inside of each of us as we face this thing called life every moment of the day. For some of us, that means we are going through a difficult series of events, but those same events may be meaningless to the next person. What would turn one person negative could make another person very positive. It’s all a matter of perspective. In the end, our nature is defined by us. We can be who we want to be by defining ourselves daily.
So as the sun sets on another day, consider well the people you interact with. I have had different experiences than you, read other books than you, and see the world through different eyes. Please open your eyes and try to understand their point of view, and while you’re at it, make yourself the best version of yourself, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and be you..
