The sun sets on another day…
I watched sunset patiently and the sky lit up and made me smile. For a moment there was peace as day transitioned to night and the sky heralded a new day to come.
Time is a funny thing. I have written about it a lot and if you search for time here around 29,000 sunsets you will find dozens of places where I refer to time and how time flows differently at different times in our life. Stephen King wrote about this and his story was impressive. (It is in Nightmares and Dreamscapes).
Why is time so funny and why does it really matter? Well the truth is you have to ask yourself the important question, “does it really matter?” Many people focus so much on time that they lose track of time and some people are so focused on later time that time doesn’t seem to exist or is it ignored completely? These are questions that we have to ask ourselves as we consider just how we wander through this thing called time.
I find myself considering time only for a limited time. Why? Because thinking about time only leads to wasting more time. Well at least it can waste time. I find time is pretty easy to waste and in doing so I try to enjoy even the time I waste simply because there isn’t much time.
I was listening to a podcast recently about people and the multiple generations of civilization that have come and gone. Still as I listened, I couldn’t help but realize how little time we actually have and how important it is to understand what is important in life.
That gets us to a good question, what is important in life? We could debate that all day and I’m relatively certain that very few people on the face of this planet would align exactly. It is amazing to me as you cross cultures and cross the limits of people how different but similar life is. In the end we define what is important to us and in doing so we define our own time.
A good example are the many people I have met who are so focused on the end game that they forget the moment-by-moment game. They set a goal and fight for that goal but don’t enjoy the path to the goal. My question that I hope you consider is” what is life if it is not enjoyed every day?” Or more to the point, “why in the world aren’t you enjoying life every day?”
Here is where the excuses usually flow. “I don’t have enough money.” “I have too much money.” “I don’t have enough time.” “I have too much time.” and on and on. There is always a reason and sometimes the reasons are real, but the end result is not. If our time is short and we can never get it back, is it worth it to be down for long or miserable all the time? Does being unhappy really make us happy?
Think about it, and maybe embrace the positives.
So as the sun sets on another day, time keeps on slipping. Don’t let it slip away. Hold on and squeeze out the positives of every moment. Make the world yours each day, and find the passion to make a difference if only to you, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and it is time…
