The sun sets on another day…
I watched the sunset through split clouds and felt a lump in my throat from the simple beauty of it all. As the world was bathed in ruby red light the window before me was fantastic. Of course the picture I took did not do it justice but I will keep it just the same and think about all the things out there and all the beauty out there.
So I was at a Trash Pandas game today. It was a work event and I came in, enjoyed myself, and waited for the dreaded foul ball to fly towards me. Of course one didn’t but I enjoyed the time and the camaraderie with fantastic people around me. This was pure amazement. I found myself giggling and telling stories and listening to others tell their story.
In the midst of it all I saw a young woman sitting in the middle of the stands, all alone, enjoying the game. A significant percentage of the rest of the stadium was full of couples and small families since it was the last game of the year. I found myself wondering why she was alone, why she was alone in the crowd and realized she may not be.
Sometimes when we look at people and think they’re alone we don’t take into account that there’s a lot more to the story. Her husband could have been a player in the dugout in front of her. She could have gone because she loves baseball and was scouting out a new job. She could have gone just to enjoy the game and see a team play that was struggling for a fun finish. She could have had a last minute cancellation but wanted the experience of the game anyway.
It really didn’t matter. This person was out there living my life and even though they might be alone in the crowd they certainly weren’t alone. We all shared in the laughter. We all enjoyed the 7th inning stretch. We all enjoyed the games between each inning. And I enjoyed the T-shirt slingshots that didn’t quite make it to the stands. Maybe we all should just enjoy the moment and not worry about anything but being alive.
In the end I hope this person had a fantastic time and I know that they’ll never be alone as long as they’re enjoying life.
So as the sun sets on another day, take chances. Live moments. Define yourself each day and make today the best day you can ever have. In the end the world is yours if you’ll only reach out and take it. You’ll never be alone. I hope your life is always eventful no matter what.
