The sun sets on another day…
Sunset was a magical montage of mists and minimal color. Still, the day was good, and the rising and falling temps gave a fog that was mesmerizing. It was a good sunset, even without the sun.
I had never heard of this version of A Christmas Carol before. It starred Kelsey Grammar and it was produced by his now ex-wife. I have seen him in several movies where he is almost serious but his time at Frasier makes it hard to really focus on the seriousness of the role. I found myself second guessing and questioning everything as we went forward and the more that I did the more that I had to let go and realize this was an attempt to make a very artistic film that was positive and different.
Of course there are lots of versions of this book that have music or sing musical pieces during the movie, but this one was focused around the music and did a good job. I am a big fan of musicals and when you mix this timeless story that’s some reasonable music it becomes a solid treat. I found myself feeling good about the music and although I won’t remember it as hauntingly as some of the previous ones, I’m sure the catchy tunes would get lost in my head for years to come.
A lot more happens in the open and I think some of the misery associated with the story gets lost, but it still works. There were also some mods to the script which made me a little sad, but that is just me. You may love it.
