The sun sets on another day…
As I rushed to solve a problem that should not have been able to be solved, I found myself watching the sky and the beauty that unfolded on the horizon. I snapped a quick picture as I made a turn in the bitter cold, but when I looked at it, it was just a blur. Still, I got to enjoy the beauty, and I felt good about the evening. When I solved that near impossible problem I walked outside and darkness had closed in but the light was still in my heart.
Well in the throes of getting some food tonight I stopped and got cookies. The computers were broken, and I almost wanted to offer assistance in helping them work more effectively but I kept my mouth shut after just dealing with a much larger problem and knew that I needed to just let people solve things the way that they do. I told jokes and laughed to the girl at the counter and of course she was quite embarrassed by the goofy old man who seems to have no social conscience. We laughed and we smiled and then the jacket walked in.
Of course, the jacket enclosed a beautiful young lady, but the story from the jacket was far more interesting. A letterman’s jacket adorned with patches that had strong meaning from some time ago or somewhere. As she and I talked we looked over the patches together. The jacket belonged to someone strong, powerful, and driven. An athlete that would achieve great things and perhaps even more then when I asked her about it she laughed. She bought the jacket because it looked so good. I was amazed and she also saw the irony and it was obvious that she had taken those characteristics to herself. There was a lot to deal with, and she was dealing, and finding a way.
I told a few stupid jokes and changed my voice a few dozen times in the matter of a few minutes and before she left, she was laughing hard but more importantly she had become a part of the jacket and it was a part of her and together I feel they could achieve anything. It wasn’t just that the jacket looked good, it was that it meant something more than just a little jacket. I was impressed.
Do you have something that gives you superpowers? Do you have something that opens the world just by being a part of you? Personally, I think I have that covered with dozens of trinkets that define who I am. It’s all pretty cool.
So as the sun sets on another day, find those things that make you feel powerful. Find those things that let you overcome what others may not even see. Mostly, find a way to be the best person that you can be every day, no matter what.
