The sun sets on another day…
I found myself watching the sunset through the trees and after a short time it was gone. There’s nothing more fantastic than watching the sunset and feeling that beauty all around you. I felt good about it even when the mosquitoes came and chased me around the yard like little needle nose psychopaths.
I’ve been working on a game called Overwhelm. I won’t tell you a ton about it but I was playing a lot with it today and I think I’ve almost got it to a point where it won’t just be a concept. As I work with it I found myself looking at possibilities and thinking that it would just be fun to have it for myself, but what good is a game if you play it alone.
I am a little different than most computer gamers and a little different than many gamers. I like to win but I enjoy playing the game. Winning is not everything. When I play computer games online I am playing to enjoy the interaction, not with a computer, but with a person. A person creates unpredictable gameplay, and as such I find myself often playing more to the player than playing to myself. This is an interesting approach for me because so many people play only to win and I am playing to enjoy. In the end that’s why I like card games like Magic the Gathering and so many others because your card deck is part of the equation but you’re playing to win, or are you? Maybe the best way to play is just to play to have fun.
Here I have to note that I was not that parent to allowed their children to win at games. I played hard and I won most of the time. There came a day once playing a game on Nintendo called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles where my son won the game instead of me. It was a first and he was so excited because it actually meant something instead of being just another Hollow victory.
What’s my point? My point is simple. Sometimes you have to play the game for the sake of playing the game. Sometimes you have to play a game in order to win and teach a lesson. Sometimes you have to play the game a little different wisdom is knowing how you should be playing the game and playing it the right way. Can you do that?
So as the sun sets on another day, overwhelm is going to be a fun game for me and hopefully it’ll be a fun game for other people. I hope that everyone finds a game they like and that they play it always. Games are amazing and you can find wisdom in any game it just look. Keep growing and finding wisdom everywhere, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and enjoy the game…
