The sun sets on another day…
The Heat, well it was up there. I find myself looking at the sky as the sun said wondering if it would bring with it Twilight and a hint of cool air. The red sky became like fire and I felt pretty good about it.
I find myself often thinking about how I write. You should think about how you write as well if you do.
There are lots of people that think planning is the way. There are lots of people that create draft after draft after draft until they finally come up with a finished product. They’re writing is Chris and the characters are tied in tight. Crinkled paper lay everywhere or crinkled bits of bites if they only work on a computer.
My process is always been a little different. At the start of it all I have seen the story in my head. I have not seen all the details just a story about a person a place or a thing. I think you should stop and think about grammar rock and a noun being a person place or thing for a second. Then I moved to creating the actual story and it takes a life of its own.
Yes this is a story about an assassin who has a girlfriend but who she is and who he is I did not Define in my mind to the level necessary for anyone to follow along. As each chapter bills the characters become real in my mind and as they become more and more real I find myself letting them, figuratively, build their own world. At the end I have a book that matches what I set out to do with details I never even considered.
It’s strange how we do things like that. I was talking to one person and they told me all about how they defined it. There’s a room and they filled the room with all of the things that would be in a room and have notes galore until that room is completely defined. Once the room was defined then they wrote the scene with all of the definitions that they use so they can have each detail they thought was important. I love books like this because they’ve transported us into a complete area where everything that we would pay attention to is available to us. My story may not have as much of that because most people see what is in front of them. That’s why giant spiders always get people, people never look up. Well they very rarely look up and those are the survivors.
Both ways are very valid and another way is valid as well that involves a combination of a little of both. There are some people that write an outline and a plan but let the story roll similar to what I do. It’s all fantastic in the end.
Considered well how you write and how everything works. Do what you need to do. Mostly, make the world amazing everyday by writing a little bit about it and enjoying the role.
By the way, here is a cool read. There are around 4,000 posts in 29,000 sunsets. When I restarted this site 11 years ago I deleted everything that came before. Looking at it now it has evolved to the state it is. There is an overview of the sunset, a topic for the day, and a closing that tries to tie some of it together. If you take a moment and just read the first paragraphs that describe the sunset it’s kind of cool and I try very hard not to repeat myself even though I found I sometimes do. Still it’s a lot of fun.
So as the sun sets on another day, remember how special you are and how special life is. Keep enjoying the days and making the world a better place, everyday, no matter what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and crinkle crinkle…
