The sun sets on another day…
The sky ripped open and light played across All I could see. There was a certain satisfaction that I felt as the warming sun became a cooling breeze. In the end there was beauty everywhere even as light left the horizon.
It’s an easy question, what about tomorrow?
I find myself enjoying that question more and more. It’s not that it’s funny or entertaining it’s just that I see tomorrow very differently than I did 20 years ago and definitely a lot differently than I did 40 years ago.
You see tomorrow is an abstract construct. Lots of people can say it’s definitive but you can’t prove it exists you can only prove that yesterday you thought there would be a tomorrow and today there was one. There’s no reason that there was, and there is no reason that there will be, only an idea that tomorrow might be there. For most of us this is just a given, we accept it blindly, we don’t really think about the importance of tomorrow.
So here I sit, right now, thinking about tomorrow. Then I will stop. And not think about tomorrow anymore because there is no promise there and I would rather spend my time thinking about today.
In many situations, I don’t really spend a lot of time telling people what I’m going to be doing days or weeks in the future. I have found over time that telling someone what’s going to happen next week has them thinking about next week and personally I think that’s not exactly a good use of time. Of course I plan things, and I support everyone planning things, but I don’t necessarily think that my moments should be based on what’s going to happen a week from now or a month from now but instead on what’s happening today.
I tried to stay even keeled all the time, but if I ever get close to frustrated it’s because someone has said that something will be dealt with tomorrow. Either you’re dealing with something in front of you right now or sometime in the future you will deal with it, but it’s very difficult to say that x, y, or z will happen tomorrow when in reality you just don’t know. To me it is a waste of cycles to put far too much focus on tomorrow, it hurts the focus we have on today.
Now it’s time for you to consider, am I wrong? Is it wrong for me to consider today as the most important day ever? Is it wrong to consider the positivity of yourself over the positivity of what might never be? Is it wrong to focus on today and make today a day that matters instead of planning for tomorrow, a day you cannot prove exists.
Think about it, I think you’ll get a kick out of your thoughts. At least I hope you will.
So as the sun sets on another day, I’m not worried about tomorrow because I’ve got a today to live I hope you’re here living it with me and paying attention to each and every day, no matter what.
