The sun sets on another day
There was beauty in the sunset and as I watched the fading smoke in the western skies swallow the sun I was amazed at the resilience of it all. There was beauty even in chaos.
I was talking to someone today at a family event about how they viewed the world. They had gone through some difficult times because of definitions and people defining them. Their family had been difficult the times had been difficult and there were no friends to support them.
On one hand I felt very bad about the situation they faced and all of the cruel people in the world and how they take out negativity on others. On the other hand I considered what it was like not worry about what people think and to set it aside and find a way of not because someone is treating you bad but in spite of it.
I don’t talk about it very much but I was little ones. I pause here for your laughter and then move on. When I was in elementary school I moved at least once a year. I’m not talking about moving across city for to a little bit different area, I’m talking about moving to a different city and then doing so having no friends, no acquaintances, and nothing in common with anyone around me. Because of this I ended up getting bullied when I was younger just about everywhere I went. I learned how to curl up like a turtle and handle the kicks or how to deal with running away or standing and taking the beating depending on how bad it was.
Today’s children and adults face a far different problem. They are constantly forced into situations where social norms are defined by people they have never even met. They are also influenced and bullied by people who could never even consider touching them. The world has shifted and in this digital age we often face a different kind of threat, the threat of someone treating us horribly with no physical pain.
I don’t suggest either for anyone. I also don’t suggest that physical bullies or parental bullies or relative bullies be allowed any type of solace. Instead, anyone that thinks they have the right to treat someone else negatively needs some type of correction. They need some way of knowing that what they were doing was wrong.
In high school I rapidly became larger than most but still there were cat calls and of course the people who wanted to take on one of the bigger guys so they could make a name for themselves. One person who was a pain in my butt was at a reunion about 15 years ago, and I asked him about how he treated everyone. This was mainly because he was a jerk, but he didn’t even remember it. To him it wasn’t important and to him he didn’t realize the pain and anguish she caused others. If it was just me that would have been okay, but for others I didn’t like it and still wonder why.
Now here I am a self-made monster because of situations like this and worse. Here I am being that person who will definitely stand up for others simply because I was tired of having it done to me and tired of seeing it done to some people in my family. Bullying is bad.
The only thing I can think of that’s worse are situations (or close to it) where the bullying or the negativity is exaggerated by someone who isn’t actually being bullied. Those people find some way to create strife or be negative even when they have no right to do so. Several years ago I faced a frustration with an author who branded me some type of monster because of either my size or something else unknown. I was frustrated for a moment but I let it go, but any type of false accusation or false negativity is the same as bullying as well. It really sucks.
Yuck, this post has gone sour, but let me save it for a second.
You are enough.
You do not deserve to be treated poorly, ever.
You are what matter to you.
Believe in you, always.
What do you think?
So as the sun sets on another day, I hope you know how special you are. I hope you know you are the only person who can validate you. You are the best person at being you. No one else! Keep being you and keep being good at it, you are the best person for the job, no mater what.
Sleep sweet, love life, and thanks for being you…
